I am very grateful to be featured in A Different Press, an online magazine about music, travel, arts, and photography. Thank you Erminia Yardley for her continued support. You can read the interview from the link below.
Currently based in London, Alex Ho started off as a classical pianist, making his concerto debut at 18. His first opportunity to explore jazz came during his undergraduate studies in Economics at UCL, and he was hooked. He continued his classical performance studies at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music while deepening his engagement with jazz. Bassist and educator Gary Crosby OBE took Alex under his wing, inviting him to join the Gary Crosby Quartet as part of the Tomorrow’s Warriors artist development programme.
This foundation led to performances at prestigious venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, the Purcell Room and Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre, and the EFG London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, and the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. He has also performed on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. Alex has collaborated with seminal figures like saxophonist Steve Williamson.
Since 2024, he has been a key part of celebrated singer Zara McFarlane's European touring band, performing in a sideman and duo capacity at major venues including Berlin's A-Trane, Vienna's Porgy & Bess, Zurich's Moods, and Rotterdam's LantarenVenster, as well as the Jazz en Tête festival in Clermont-Ferrand.
A significant focus of his recent work is on the intimacy of small ensembles, particularly in duo and solo settings. Since 2023, he has been touring and performing extensively as a bandleader in Mainland China, following his debut there in 2018 at Shanghai Concert Hall and JZ Club Guangzhou. His most anticipated project to date is "Serendipity", a piano and saxophone duo album of original music with acclaimed saxophonist Donavan Haffner, slated for release in March 2026.
His work as an arranger includes contributions to the soundtrack of the UK independent film The Perfect Human – A Love Story (2014). In the same year, he embarked on the recording project “Trio Soundscapism” with Hong Kong premier bassist Tsang Tak Hong and New York drummer Ian Chang, releasing an album of original music and free improvisations in 2016.
